Organizing thoughts into notes that visually and conceptually link ideas in logical ways help children learn efficiently. Goal setting helps students determine what they want to accomplish, make a plan to get there, monitor their process and - hopefully! - ultimately achieve their purpose. Engaging in goal-directed behavior will be crucial to success throughout their lives, in academics and beyond. Similarly, the ability to make decisions consciously and thoughtfully will have long-term consequences on the futures of all of our children. Research shows that teaching skills like analyzing options, seeking advice, evaluating pros and cons, prediction, reflection and leadership improve academic performance and overall well-being.
